"Nine" is an ancient storybook character- he is just a myth, not necessarily real (though some believe he is). He is the creature who guides souls through the transition of life to afterlife. His name "nine" is derrived from the number's association with being the "highest point" (in this case, it represents spiritual afterlife).

His body is split between two forms, which represent to degeneration of death and the lucidity of spiritual afterlife.
